The first regional awards dinner for the PL4S and PL Girls football was hosted by MFC foundation at the Riverside Stadium on Monday the 24th of November. The awards programme celebrated the achievements of both the young people who have taken part in the programmes as well as the support staff such as coaches and administration staff some of whom work in the back office.
Four of the regional clubs were in attendance at the event (Middlesbrough, Hull, Sunderland and Newcastle) and there were a total of 20 nominations for the following awards: Coach of the Year, Team Achievement, Young Sports Achievement, Unsung Hero, Young Club Champion and Special Achievement. Each club could nominate one person per award and the winners and runners up were as follows:
Coach of the Year: Charlotte Rush, Sunderland
Team Achievement: Wearside Wildcats, Sunderland
Unsung Hero: Anjela Lillystone, Middlesborough & Pauline Hardy, Hull.
It was a very successful evening for netball in the region, with four of the evening’s awards going to netballers. A huge congratulations to all of those who were nominated for and successful in winning their awards.
The evening celebrations were thoroughly enjoyed by those in attendance, and the two keynote speakers, Garry Pallister (ex- Manchester United and Middlesbrough footballer) and Fab Flournoy of the Newcastle Eagles Basketball team, shared some inspirational speeches and stories with the audience.
Thanks to those who attended and whose hard work was recognised over the course of the evening. Congratulations to our netballing winners, and we hope that this is the first of many celebratory events which recognise the success of those in the region.
